The Feudal System was the powerful system of land control created by the Normans during their conquest. 

The King had used a network of powerful Barons and Knights to control their Kingdom. However, this began to be threatened.

As you know the CHURCH in the medieval period was immensely powerful!  This often led to conflict between KINGS (who believed they were appointed by God) and the CHURCH themselves who wanted to preserve as much power as possible.
